Altoona City Auditorium

Name/Title

Altoona City Auditorium

Description

Altoona City Auditorium was built in 1919 on the southwest corner of Lynn Avenue and First Street East. The Altoona Auditorium Association was a group that formed in 1919 for the building project. They purchased lots, sold stock, built and owned the building. On April 1,1947 the city residents voted 93 to 64 in a referendum to purchase the building from the Auditorium Assoc. at a cost of $7,500. The city of Altoona then owned the building and continued to use it for multiple purposes until 1963 when the Altoona Planning Commission reported that a new city building was needed and the auditorium torn down in August/September 1964. The new city building was built in 1965 on that same site.
