Binding Notes

Bound in royal blue cloth with a rectangular panel stamped in gilt and white, depicting an art nouveau garden scene of white irises and a dragonfly, set within a double-ruled gilt border. Iris motif repeated to spine. Top edge gilt. Note the use of negative stamping to create the leaves and stem of the iris and the dragonfly Note the flaking of the white pigment used to stamp the iris blossoms, a common occurrence and flaw of the white pigments used for stamping. In this case, however, the flaking has left a pale blue color, which accidentally works quite nicely as the iris hue. Unsigned.
