* The Grolier Club Catalogue (see below) states that  a T. Anderton, bookbinder, "Probably moved to Philadelphia before 1768 ibid. pg 120. and given that the History of American Manufacturers, ( vol I. 1868. pg. 193.) states that John came from England and set up business  in New York as a binder, letter-case and pocket-book maker it seems likely that T. Anderton of New York is also John Anderton of Philadelphia. See: T, Anderton for earlier history of this binder. 2. 'He was from England, and was a binder, letter-case and pocket-book maker, in which he first began business in New York".
