Designed by Sarah Wyman Whitman in a three part binding of cream vellum-like cloth to the spine with red cloth boards with a square (2.5 x 2.5 inches approx.) panel in an intricate gilt stamped stylized design of an iris blossom and small hearts to the front right center, repeated on the rear board, a common Whitman design technique, Spine also has the iris/heart motif in gilt.
