Palmer and Rey Guillotine

Name/Title

Palmer and Rey Guillotine

Entry/Object ID

2009.7.1

Description

This Palmer & Rey guillotine is equipped with gauges, allowing it to be set to two different depths. As such, the head and tail of the book can be cut at one depth and the fore-edge at another, at the same time. Along with the gauges, the clamp retracts high enough to place four books in each of these three positions. Thus, in total, twelve books can be trimmed in one cut. Like other machines made prior to the 1900s, the Palmer & Rey is decorated with painted details. 30" blade.
