Sylvester and Orphanos, 1985. First Edition. Hardcover. SIGNED LETTERED EDITION. 76pp, colophon. 14 color photos inlaid. 8vo, grey cloth with gilt stamped covers in floral pattern, gilt slipcase. Signed on the limitation page and lettered, edition limited to 330 copies (300 numbered, 26 lettered, 4 named). Letterpress printed by Patrick Reagh in Bembo type on Arches Mouldmade paper. The color plates were never inlaid on the majority of the backstock copies and many of these have trickled out in the trade without them. A series of eleven essays on art. 'Compared to writing, pictorial and sculptural art are holy, unproblematical, and resolute; we are invariably better for time spent in their contemplation' - from Updike's foreword.
