Description

Signs of the Times magazine published themed issues from time-to-time at the end of the last century, including several issues themed around gilding. Museum founder, Tod Swormstedt, who was an editor at the time, commissioned gilded glass pieces to serve as the covers for three of these themed issues. This November, 1991 piece was created by Noel Weber, Classic Sign Studio, Boise, ID—one of the original seven Letterheads. Weber utilized many of the various “lost art” techniques described in the issue’s featured articles to create the turn-of-the-century themed reverse glass piece. The magazine also included a step-by-step instructional article detailing the making of the piece.
