Description

Sign is double-faced neon sign and mounted on a large steel plate base.  The neon forming the mouth of the penguin is animated in two phases.  Sign was originally pole-mounted as indicated by the steel pipe protruding out of the base of the sign.  A steel plate has been fabricated for mounting the sign upright. The business began as a carhop drive-in on June 6th, 1950 in Wabash, IN. Initially, it was only open during the summers, but as its popularity grew, it began operating year round.  Penguin Point was located mainly throughout Northern, IN. They were most well known for their tenderloin sandwich which was created by one of the company’s founders, Wallace E. Stouder, Sr. They also served, burgers, fries, and chicken.  In 2018, UsAssets Inc. acquired Penguin Point with the intent of continuing to expand the company. As of 2022, there are 13 operational Penguin Points throughout Northern, IN.
