This is a hand-made and hand-painted wooden sign that was once installed on the side of a truck. It reads, "Chas. B. Farwick & Son," "Roofing Furnace Sheetmetal Work," "Parkway 0685," "123 W. Court Street," and, "Res. Phones WA 3858 - WA 8916" Farwick signs was a company that was first established in 1870 by John H. Farwick at 123 W. Court Street. It sold stoves, roofing, hardware and paint supplies. In 1922, ownership was transferred to Charles Bernand Farwick, John H.'s youngest son and the namesake of this sign. Charles became Chas and kept the business at the same location but later gave it to the youngest of his sons, Bernard in 1954, the same year that the city purchased the Court St. property. Moving its location to 2018 Western Ave and changing their name to Chas. B Farwick & Son, they continued to sell roofing & sheet metal supplies. In the mid 1970s, the company eventually downsized, sold its assets and only sold select roofing materials out of Bernard's residence until his passing in 1981.Collection
