Description

The sign was painted by Pulitzer Prize- winning cartoonist Mike Peters, for a play of the same name. It shows an ant dressed up as Charley's "Aunt for the play of the same name, originally written by Brandon Thomas in 1892. The play was directed by Ed Stern, then co-founder and artistic director of the Indiana Repertory for its 1972 season. Stern also directed the same play for the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, OH and later served as the Artistic Director of Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park for 20 years. Artist Mike Peters was an editorial cartoonist for the Dayton Daily News for many years.
