Description

A painted sheet metal sign that is illuminated by colored, exposed lightbulbs for the Daughters of America, an Nativist organization, highly involved in religion and patriotism, and an auxiliary group of the Order of United American Mechanics. It was founded in the late 1800s, but it reached its peak of popularity during the 1930s. The American flag and Bible imagery are common in their marketing and meeting use. Although originally wired for 95 sockets, this large sign features 87 lightbulbs total, in red, white, blue and yellow. The lightbulbs help to outline or enhance the pictorial elements of the sign, such a shield-like shape, red and white stripes, the "D of A," lettering, a bible, two holding hands, and an eagle at the top upon a flag-like shape. The eagle has its own American flag shield-like shape upon its breast. It was manufactured by Federal System, a subsidiary of Federal Sign Co.
