This three-dimensional, cast metal boot features neon one side and lightbulb illumination on the other. When the Museum acquired the sign, both sides had neon illumination, but it became evident during the restoration process that the boot was originally lightbulb-lit. One side was restored back to its original lightbulbs, and the other was left with the “updated” neon in order to show the sign’s history. Businesses would often refit an older sign with new technology as in the case of the Regal Boot usually to save money.
