The bookstore was located in a three-story frame house at the corner of Main Street and Cooper Road in Montgomery, OH. It became a major news story in 1982 after a plane carrying four FBI agents, a private investigator, and an admitted bank embezzler Carl Johnson crashed into the store during its approach into the Lunken Field Airport. The bank thief was leading agents to a stash of $50,000 he claimed to have hidden in Cincinnati, where he had lived for several months after stealing $615,000 from the National Bank of Albany Park, Chicago in the 1970s where he was an assistant comptroller. Johnson was the only one who knew the location as a means of maintaining accountability in case the money was not there. All passengers were killed in the crash, so the money was never found. The fire lasted over two hours, destroying four cars in the parking lot, and injuring four people inside the bookstore, two of them critically.Collection
