Description

A portfolio collection of ten etchings. Immediately below the image in the lower right corner is the artist's signature "Genove '71" and in the lower left corner is written "48/92." The signature and number are both written in pencil. Paper appears to be of an excellent quality and bears the watermark "Arches" on the bottom center of the sheet. 1979.17.1.1 - A third of the image is black with the top of the shape made of figure's heads and arms pointing to the right. 1979.17.1.2 - Black and white print partitioned into three vertical sections. The top vertical rectangle has three white arrows (2 full, 1 partial) pointing right towards a small group of people. The rectangle below still has the three arrows, however the group of people have become a crowd covering most of the right arrow. The bottom rectangle has no visible arrows and is covered almost entirely with the people, creating a mostly solid black rectangle. Same image as 79.13.5.9, but slightly lighter. 1979.17.1.3 - Crowd of people with only legs visible running across the top half. At the bottom is the image of a police officer swinging a baton. You can see the officer in different stages of making the motion. 1979.17.1.4 - Image is split into 8 sections. Starting at the top left going down and then starting at the top right and going down, each section is a zoomed in view of a crowd of people possibly fighting. 1979.17.1.5 - At least 19 male figures running across the center of the print. All are running left ; some with there heads down; some are overlapping creating a darker space. There are also shadows of their bodies which suggest they are running from the light source. The top and bottom of the printed area are darker and fade to a white center. 1979.17.1.6 - Split into eight sections, the etching appears to depict a figure getting killed with a gun. Each square shows only a small section of the scene. The last square at the bottom right shows almost the whole body dead on his back. 1979.17.1.7 - This image is split into two sections. The top half has soldiers/police coming from the left filling about a third of the section. The bottom section is black for the right third and then begins to form into a group of people. 1979.17.1.8 - Split into two sections. The top half has a group of people with their arms up pointed towards the right. The bottom half has a group of people with their arms up pointed towards the left. 1979.17.1.9 - Black and white print partitioned into three vertical sections. Same image as 79.13.5.2, but slightly darker. 1979.17.1.10 - Four figures running in the direction of each corner. The bottom two are cropped with out a foot and the top two are cropped without heads. 1979.17.1.11 - Visually separated into three sections. The lower right section is black with shadow figures coming out the left curved side. The curve reaches from the bottom middle to the top right corner. The second section is a grey and mimics the black curve with shadow figures emerging from the left side. This curve reaches from the bottom left corner to the top middle. The last section is simply white.
