2012.1.2Description
The piece is a handbound intaglio book and a handmade box. The book's front cover is brown with the title printed "The INDUSTRIAL State Park." The spine is covered in a grey canvas. The pages are connected only to the front cover, and the pages can be opened in an accordion-style so that the entire contents of the book pages can be viewed as a single long image. The book can also be viewed traditionally. 11 individual pages are creating the entire work. The color palette includes black, greys, and brown. It depicts an industrial building in the landscape of the Indiana Dunes State Park. A brown beach opens up toward the right of the image and ends with a large smokestack billowing smoke. The 2nd to the last page includes a written section by the artist stating, "the BREATHTAKING scenery inspired this book at the Indiana Dunes STATE PARK LANDFILL PRESS Joshua McGarvey September 2010 Book 6 of 10", and the last page has the artist's signature along the bottom edge of the page. The box is covered in a blue canvas material and opens along the length of the right side. An orange string wraps around a button fixed to the front of the box to secure the box shut. On the front center of the box, there is a rectangular light blue image on handmade paper. The paper is bordered by white handmade paper.Collection
