He is standing (painted from the waist up), facing and looking to the left, and holding a bible open in his hands. The background is a mix of blues mostly in the top half and reds in the bottom half. On the left are some directional lines coming in creating a light source shining on the boy. There are some faint yellow crosses in the background to the left of his face.
