St. Paul, Alpes MaritimesEntry/Object ID
1984.3.4Description
The image appears to be a Byzantine or Mediterranean village. The viewer is at the bottom of the hill looking up at a castle-like village complete with a central watchtower. Two sailing vessels in a large body of water are in the lower left corner. Birds appear to be flying around the watchtower. The hillside beneath the town is built up with stones, making the village appear to be sitting atop a manmade plateau. In the lower right corner is written "St. Paul, Alpes Maritimes-Arms 1927" Below is written in pencil "John Taylor Arms-1927." Etching appears to have been done on rice paper and is yellowing with age.Acquisition
