Name/Title

Nine Newts

Entry/Object ID

1990.3.4

Description

A horizontal image of two frogs and three turtles in a colorful landscape setting is surrounded by a patterned blue field located with nine unpatterned blue diamonds. In each diamond are three newts. The entire image is a study of contrasting and often clashing patterns, some striped, some tessellated, some free-formed like the snake's scales. Below the image in the lower-left corner is written in pencil "Nine Newts," and in the lower center regions is written "6/16," and in the lower right corner is signed "Sarojini Jha." Appears to have been printed on pure cotton fiber paper.
