Oil on canvas depicting a large fish house in the center of the composition with a pier running out to the left. A wall of pylons starts in the lower right hand corner and extends diagonally back to the central building. To the right of the building is a red board and the edge of a fence or another structure. To the left of the building upon the pier is the figure of a man repairing a net. In the background are other buildings plus the masts of ships which are indistinct. Three seagulls are in the sky above the pier, while below is sand and beach. The painting is signed in blue-green paint, "Francis Clark Brown." The painting is framed in a heavy wooden moulding, painted and textured to resemble aged wood. The interior of the frame also has a thin white mat. A small brass plaque at the bottom center of the frame reads, "CAPE COD LANDMARK; Francis Clark Brown; Mrs. T.C. Werbe Prize, 1958; Anderson Civic Art Association." On the verso of the canvas in pencil appears "#666" and this same marking in pencil also appears on the stretcher. Also on the stretcher appears "II-2A" in pencil. On the stretchers in red ink appears the manufacturers stamp and stretcher size. The manufacturer is Grumbacher.Type of Painting
