The Marx family Standing in Front of Their CabinEntry/Object ID
2023.ACM.42Description
Mathias Marx bought a cabin in 1866 from Adam Starr, whose father, John Starr, built the cabin. Marx went on to raise all ten of his children in this cabin and added several additions to the home throughout his life. As recalled by Esther Marx Norman, the granddaughter of Mathias Marx, she lived in the cabin until 1923. She wrote about this in the 1980 Andrew County green book.
This is a photograph of the Marx family standing in front of their house in 1885. The original structure of the house, is a cabin from 1844. As normal with these cabins over the years the Marx's added on to the cabin around the original structure. The original structure was usually covered up by the built on rooms from the house. There are seven children in the photo, and Mathias Marx and his wife. This photo is from 1885; the people left to right are Ed Marx, Joseph Marx, Tony Marx, Catherine Marx, Mathias Marx, Lena Marx, Susie Marx, and Mary Marx.Context
