The Historical Society of Andrew County was formed on March 16, 1972, at the Rolling Hills Library in Savannah, MO. Records for Andrew County Historical Society were kept at the courthouse. Meetings where often held at the courthouse in the south room of the basement, also known as the 4-H room. The Historical Society meetings were held there for several years.
These are the meeting minutes for the first Andrew County Historical Society meeting, which formed the Historical Society for Andrew County on March 16, 1972. This meeting was open to the public; and the nine people in attendance decided to form the historical society. Mrs. Gerald served as the temporary chairman of the group to discuss the purpose and possibilities of having a Historical Society. Then those in attendance decided on the name and that it should be called the Andrew County Historical Society. Next, they also decided to join the state's Historical Society, the Missouri State Historical Society, to incorporate, and where meetings should be held. The minutes then lists the officers elected: the president Mrs. G. E. Hower, Vice-president Mr. Perry Willard Oliver, Secretary Mrs. Martha Farr, Treasurer Mrs. J. D. Marcum, and board members Mr. H. R. Breit and Mr. O. A. Kelim. Lastly, they went over some bylaws to see what they wanted the Historical Society's to look like. This is a photocopy of the original.Context
