Description

In 1975, these plates were sold by the Andrew County Historical Society to raise money to put shelving in the museum at the Clasbey Center. There were 360 plates, and they were sold for $5.00 a plate. They could be purchased at Marcum Oil Co. or The Home Bank. A white plate with all green drawings and lettering, which has 8 drawings of important buildings in Andrew County. The top building is of the Court House in Savannah. Going clockwise from the Courthouse, the buildings are as following: Grain Elevator, Savannah Reporter Building, First Courthouse, Public School Building, St. Mary's Episcopal/Church, Rosendale Mill, and the K.C. Depot. On the back, in green is the history of Andrew County written in 2 paragraphs, the logo, and name of the manufacturer. The plate has a brass plate holder designed for hanging the plate.

On the front: In the center is the outline of Andrew County with "Andrew County/Historical Society/Missouri" in the center with the outline of a building with a large "A" and smaller "C", "H" and "S" vertically on the building. A border around this drawing has "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA/1776/1976/BICENTENNIAL" in the border. Starting top center and going clockwise the buildings represented are "COURTHOUSE - 1900", "GRAIN ELEVATOR", SAVANNAH REPORTER BUILDING - 1895", FIRST COURTHOUSE/1841", PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDING - 1904", "ST. MARY'S EPISCOPAL/CHURCH - 1874", ROSENDALE MILL", " 'K.C. DEPOT' 1870". On the back: Andrew County was added to the State of Missouri with the purchase of the Platte country in 1836. The county organization was completed in March 1841. The first session of the Andrew County Court was held under an elm tree located in the yard of Gallant Rains in northwest Savannah. Bordering on Buchanan County, with Savannah the county seat located 12 miles north of St. Joseph, one finds both urban and rural life-styles among the residents of Andrew County.
