The Clasbey Community Center was constructed in 1976; to honor the Clasbey sisters, who were very important to the community. The sisters were influential in promoting and organizing the Monday Musicale among the younger ladies. They were also the driving force in the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Even temporarily holding chapel in their living room. The sisters also donated to the Clasbey Memorial Parish House, where church school was held until 1965. One of the five main rooms of the Clasbey Community Center was dedicated to being used by the Andrew County Historical Society. The wall paneling in the Clasbey Center was gifted from the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Savannah, Georgia. The grand opening ceremony happened on June 13, 1976. Harry Duncan, Savannah's own and a philanthropist to the entire Andrew County community was there to cut the ribbon, and a large crowd was present for this event.
This is a picture of the Clasbey Community Center building, with two red double doors. The parking lot is a dirt and gravel lot, not paved. In the foreground, of the photo are tire marks and tracks visible in the parking lot. There are a few weeds near the sidewalk wrapped around the building. In the background, is a windmill and a distant view of some hills. A few light clouds above the building in the sky in the photo. The Clasbey Center is a light tan building with a dark colored roof and guttering. There are lights above each of the red doors and a light next to the Clasbey sign on the building.Made/Created
