Description

Platte Purchase Days Living History Festival (shortened to Platte Purchase Days) started in September 1997 and was discontinued in 2002. It was inspired by The Platte Purchase Centennial Celebration in St. Joseph, MO., in 1938 and orchestrated by Ina Wachtel. Glen Zahnd was a cast member in the 1938 Platte Purchase Centennial and was the President of the Board when the museum decided to plan Platte Purchase Days. The Platte Purchase Days was an event to help fundraise for the Andrew County Museum. Many reenactors brought history to life with their skills and storytelling to help entertain. To help teach the community what it was like to live in area that is now Andrew County during the 1830s. This event was held at Duncan Park which is across from the museum. On August 18-20, 1938, the Platte Purchase Centennial event was held in St. Joseph, MO. The centennial was from 1837 to 1937. It was approved by the State Historical Society of Missouri. The object is a yellow pamphlet with a picture of a Native American Chief on the front cover.
