Description

ca. 1930 Thompson Brothers Boat Manufacturing Company Canvas Back Duck Boat - canvas covered According to 1930 Thompson Catalogue, The Canvas back duck boat is the same model as the mallard, but it is built like a canoe, with wide cedar ribs, planked with cedar and covered with No. 8 canvas. It is filled with a flexible waterproof filler which dries with a flint-like surface that is impervious of water. Although light in weight, it is a strong, staunch and durable boat. Canoes built in this way last for years, and as a duck boat does not receive as much or as hard usage as the average canoe, one of these duck boats should give many years of satisfactory service. The canvas back duck boat was created to meet the demand for a light weight, compact duck boat that would ride on the fender of a car. It could be transported from one place to another and was a boat that would stay perfectly tight regardless of how long it was left out in the water, so that it could be kept at home when not in use. Cost: $49 Finished dry grass color. One removable seat included.
