Description

2002.012 Boat Type: Outboard Builder: Shell Lake Boat Co. Model: Falcon Length: 14' Beam: 54" Date Built: Unknown The Shell Lake Boat Company from Shell Lake, Wisconsin, were builders of outboard motor boats and canoes. The earliest information on the company available is from the 1924, though one catalog from the 1950s advertises "Over 40 years experience." The craft advertised are similar to Thompson outboard boats, strip-built over bent oak frames. Instead of regular strip-building, however, The Shell Lake Boat Co used the bead-and-cove method. A boat very similar in almost all details to the one that we have appears in a catalog as The Falcon. This boat has an L-shaped seat, and is advertised at 2" narrower than the one that we have, but the seat may have been altered and part of the seat lost over time. Our boat is very solid, with an old but adequate finish, and interesting decals about boat safety present on the seats. EVS 08
