Description

1989.010 Boat Type: Outboard, Kit Boat Builder: Chris Craft Model: 12' Runabout Length: 11' 7" Beam: 49" Date Built: 1952-1954 In the early 1950s, the storied Chris Craft Boat Company began offering a line of kit boats that a customer could build themselves out of pre-cut frames and plywood. They ranged in size from an 8' Pram to a 16' Express runabout. No hull numbers were kept for these boats. Decorative styling was the customer's choice. This is a 12' Runabout, a hard-chine planing outboard, built by Frank M. Burger and Allen C. Cameron. It is plywood over sawn mahogany frames. The boat is in good shape, needing only aesthetic re-touching. A decorative second rail running the length of the boat and sweeping up at the bow was likely added by the customer. The hardware also was probably added by the boat's owner and not included with the kit.
