Inboard engine, Scripps , perhaps out of P.D.Q., model 160 or 202, s/n 12645. No separate paper file, in with 1979.009.
Scripps Motor Company from Detroit Michigan, one of the best-known and respected makers of marine powerplants, supplier of engines to Chris Craft, Gar Wood, and others. This is a model 160; designed for utility launches and cruisers, it is a low-speed, high-torque motor designed to swing a big prop. It is a straight six, single downdraft 1 1/2 inch duplex Holley DD5 carburetor, dual 12 volt induction coil ignition by Delco. It also features a Delco 12 volt motor-generator. Sales literature in the library that looks to be from the 1930s shows this engine, and rates it at 125 horsepower between 1200 and 1800 rpm for its 548.4 cubic inches. The high output at low speed is a result of its very long stroke: 4 1/2 by 5 3/4. Scripps also made a model 161, the same engine in opposite construction for twin screw installation. "Under the bridge of a family cruiser, in the after-quarters of a heavy auxiliary, or in the hold of a rugged work boat these models are unsurpassed." EVS 2007Collection
