Description

Inboard engine, Chrysler Crown Walter P. Chrysler was among those most interested in burgeoning sales of small boats in 1927-28. As a result, the Marine Engineering Division of Chrysler Corp. began to convert their Chrysler and Plymouth auto engines to marine engines. This "Crown" model is the type of engine to be used in 24-28' runabouts. This is a Type A and is rated at 85 HP. It features Zenith updraft carburetors. Chrysler Motor Company Crown type A 2000.072 The Chrysler Crown is famous for powering Chris Craft runabouts in the 1930s. This is a standard example of that engine. The Crown type A is a straight six, flathead, 3 1/4 by 4 1/2, 224 cubic inches. It was available with an updraft or downdraft carburetor, the downdraft being slightly more powerful. This is a single updraft, using a Zenith carburetor. In the file in the library is a sales brochure from 1933 that shows this engine. It originally sold for $560. This engine is very complete, and could easily be restored and used. S/n M2-5153. EVS 2007
