Description

Buffalo Type A 2000.014 The Buffalo Gasolene Motor Company from Buffalo, New York. According to grayson's "Old Marine Engines", Buffalo started in 1899 with a 2-horsepower, 2-cycle engine, and by 1911 had a catalog of 4-cycle engines from 2 to 225 horsepower. This is a 2 cylinder, 4 cycle engine that is rated at 2 horsepower, and looks to be from about 1911, perhaps a little earlier. It is an L-head with a cast iron block and mostle brass hardware. It has a single updraft Schebler carburetor, a plunger water pump driven by and eccentric collar on the timing gear, and some brass plumbing for the water system. Most of the water system and all of the oiling system are missing. There is no source for a spark present, but the presence of a distributor indicates that it had an induction coil ignition system. It has brass priming cups on the heads (a one-piece block). The nameplate identifies it as Type A, number 55. A nice, old, unusual engine, with a few bits missing. EVS 2008
