Description

Smith Marine Engine This three cylinder engine was built in 1909 by Smith Electrical Engineering, Watertown, NY. The early history included use in a gaff-rigged sloop providing seasonal ferry service between Sackets Harbor and Pillar Point until it foundered during a storm in 1917. At that time passage cost 15 cents and errands/messages cost 5 cents. It was restored in the Museum Shop by Jack Reff. Smith Electrical Engineering was bought out by the Watertown Motor Co early 1900's. Was then succeeded by Gillespie-Boynton Company.
