Description

Inboard Acadia Marine Engine Acadia Gas Engines Ltd. was a presence in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. It was founded by W. T. Ritcey in 1908. This restored engine is c. 1910-1920. It is a 2 cylinder engine with 8 HP. Interesting is the make and break igniter, instead of a spark plug, which was an optional feature of the Acadia. The company's combined kerosene and gasoline injector carburetor proved a great success because of its simplicity and efficiency, and its adaptability to any of the thousands of 2 cycle engines in use. The carburetor is attached to the engine by means of one connection only, and will burn kerosene with equally good results. Like many old engines, the starting handle is spring loaded and pulls out, which is a safety feature when the engine is in operation.
