Inboard engine, Waterman
The Waterman is typical of those used in Dispros, canoes and other light craft. It was one of a few engines made with a lot of aluminum, such as the crank case and carburator. It has a water pump with dual suctions, one of which could be used for pumping out the boat. Waterman Motor Co. of Detroit, MI, began building marine engines at some indefinite time prior to 1908. An early Waterman catalog indicates that originally Waterman built only a 4 cycle marine engine, changing over to the 2 cycle design about 1906. This Model K-1, single cylinder, 2 HP engine special features include copper fittings and water jacket. In 1917 the company was purchased by Arrow Motor & Machine Co., Inc., Newark, NJ. Waterman was famous for the Model K engines.Collection
