Inboard engine, Watertown Motor Co
The engines built by the Watertown Motor Company, Watertown, NY, were quite popular. Production began around the turn of the century and lasted until the depression in the late 1920's. The company made large engines in the early times. In 1907 their line included models from 2 to 40 HP; a year later they offered up to 60 HP, and by 1910 the horsepower had climbed to 75. The engine illustrates problems of lubrication of early engines, that of oil drip feeder attached to the carburetor. Discovery of mixing oil with the gasoline made the 2 cycle engines more popular. Most of the old small engines did not have attached transmissions. This model, circa 1912, has 2 cylinders, 6 HP.Collection
