Description

Inboard engine, Kermath 4 cylinder, Type XH, s/n 34370. From the Leyare number boat loaned by John Peach? it's number was 72.040 on reports... old #642 was boat, which was sold at auction by the owner, Peach. Kermath Sea Bird XH 1972.040 Kermath literature from 1937 shows this to be on the smaller end of thier production. Two different Sea Birds were produced, but it is difficult to say which of these we have. Both are 3 1/4 by 4, 134 cubic inches, but one runs all the way to 3200 rpms and produces fifty horsepower, while the other only runs to 2000 rpms and produces only 30 horsepower. This engine has the "Temporator" temperature control system, which adjusts the temperature of the cooling water to allow the engine to run warmer at low speeds and cooler at higher speeds. This feature does not appear in the Kermath literature until 1939. S/n 34370. The Sea Bird is an in-line flathead four, with a Stromberg updraft carburetor and induction coil ignition. EVS 2007
