Description

Outboard engine, Schnacke Mid-Jet Schnake Mid-Jet 1989.036 This is an early jet-drive outboard, probably designed more to avoid propeller damage in shallow water than for increased efficiency. It is powered by a single-cylinder two and a half horsepower powerhead from Tecumseh Power Products. The jet drive is simply a standard propeller turned to thrust vertically, a scoop facing forward in front and below it, and one facing backward above and behind it, pulling water from in front and pushing it out the back. Later jet-drives were impeller driven and far more effective, efficient, and less prone to suck sticks and weeds up into the drive.
