Description

Outboard engine, Evinrude A, 1922, 1cyl, 3.5 HP, s/n A118343 A very early outboard engine, 1922, two horsepower, the first offering from Ole Evinrude, first made in 1909. Note how the label, "detachable row-boat motor", implies that this is a new concept. One large cylinder in a cast-iron block make this engine very heavy for its size. Direct-adjusted carburetor in the front, forward-reverse shift by turning the tiller handle. Exhaust is through a vertical perforated sheet-copper canister in back on the port side. A vent can be opened in the top of this can to relieve back-pressure. Starts by a crank wheel with a large wooden knob. Very interesting. This motor is in fine original condition, though the tank is dented. Turns over with good compression.
