Description

Outboard engine, Johnson Johnson P-30 78.009 Pre-Sea Horse off-set opposed twin, six horsepower, 1926. Standard front-mounted carburetor with direct adjustments, though not encased in aluminum as in the Sea Horses. Perforated exhaust cylinder is mounted under the tank in back in the standard way, fed by separate exhaust manifolds from each cylinder. Rope-start, with rectangular steering bar. The cooling water intake is just behind the propeller at the top of its rotation, water discharge just forward of the propeller at the same point. In this design the propeller acts as a water pump, though the water enters the cylinders on the bottom and exits on the top, so as not to fight convection. The labels are missing from this engine on the back and sides, though the label which reads "Made in the USA" is visible, though scratched, on the starboard-front of the gas tank. It has no spark-plugs, and it sounds like there is sand and rocks in the tank.
