1963 or 1964 55 hp Homelite Outboard 4 cycle Motor
The Homelite 55 hp 4 cycle outboard motor was introduced in 1961 as one of the earliest 4 cycle motors used as outboard engines on boats. It was based on the Fageol outboard motor designed by Lou Fageol which was itself a derivative of the 44 cubic inch Crosley automobile engine. The Homelite was more successful than either of these two engines and was sold from 1961 to 1966. In 1966 Homelite's outboard manufacturing was sold to Fisher Pierce who changed the name of the motor to Bearcat and continued to sell it under that name until 1972.
This particular motor has been used and is on an original dealer's stand. It came with the Homelite Shop Manual, Owners Manual, Work Order and Maintenance Book.Collection
