Description

Outboard engine, Coventry Victor Coventry Victor 1981.022 This is a very unusual outboard engine, the only such known from Coventry Victor, which was known primarily for producing the small powerplants used in Disappearing Propeller boats. Records say 1939 and six horsepower. It is a two cylinder, four-stroke cycle engine with an onboard gas tank, aluminum block and flywheel, and a cast aluminum muffler. It has an oil pump on the front, and a water pump mounted on the back, just on the other side of the flywheel from the engine. A crank handle protrudes from the front of the engine, and is spring-loaded to return to its disengaged position once the motor starts. Magneto ignition with a kill switch on the front of the gas tank. This engine also has an oil pressure gauge with the unusual label "LBs / [_]'' " which means "pounds per square inch". The throttle and choke levers are in the front, on the starboard side of the carburetor. The powerhead and lower unit rotate 360 degrees, and the bent-tubing steering bar flips from one side to the other over the top of the engine. A very unusual engine. Turns stiffly, could use some lubrication.
