Description

Outboard engine, Lockwood Motorgo. Date from Bill Loveland 1-2-06. Is #26 on exhibit map. Lockwood Ash 1988.022 An early Lockwood outboard from 1923, originally sold through Sears. This is a one-cylinder horizontally firing engine on the model of the early Evinrudes, iron, bronze, and aluminum castings. This engine has a lot of aluminum, including the crank case, exhaust manifold, starting wheel, and gas tank. The starting wheel is a tapered-groove design, for a knotless rope. The exhaust manifold has a separate channel cast into it for cooling water to enter the block, the water then exits through the exhaust. This would seem to pre-heat the water, which is probably why it is not seen on other engines of this type. Spark advance is under the wheel, tiller handle turns lower unit only. Turns over with good compression. It looks as if someone has stolen the decal off of the gas tank.
