Description

Outboard engine, Evinrude 22.5 hp #20143. Date from bill Loveland 1-2-06. Evinrude Outboard Motor Made by Outboard Marine Corporation, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Accn. No. 1988.035 Donor: Robert Sandreczki 22.5 HP @ 6000 RPM Model "Speeditwin", Pivot steering Model No. 6037 Serial No. 20143 30 CID, 100lbs. Sold new for $310 in 1941 2 cylinder (opposed) flywheel magneto This motor was the most popular among the larger, early '40's engines. With the conversion by the factories into the war effort for WWII, this motor was slightly modified (militarized) and used on landing barges and other military vessels. Variations of this motor were made to race and it was used into the Mid-105-'s. Being 30 cubic inches, it fits into the "C" outboard racing class. Some racing motors were modified to burn alcohol fuel for added speed. Larger engines like this were popular on the St. Lawrence River from 1930 through the 1950's. They would push larger boats and get people to the islands quicker and safer. from Boldt Yacht House signage. JMP 2010
