Description

Outboard engine, Muncie OB2. Date from Bill Loveland 1-2-06. Muncie Gear Co. model 0B-2 1992.021 Records suggest this is a five horsepower engine from about 1930, but it looks a little smaller and earlier than that. The motor is a standard opposed-twin with a front-mounted carburetor and direct adjustments. Exhaust through a cylinder undeneath the tank, protected by a heat-shield. This engine has an unusual feature; a wheel underneath the engine accepts a rope for steering. This engine has no transmission, rather, the lower unit has 360 degrees of movement, and reverse can be obtained by cranking it around backwards. Cooling water is discharged by a copper tube on either side, between the exhaust and the gas tank. The engine turns easily and has good compression. Both sides of the engine mount have been broken and welded back together, and that peice, which also connects to the exhaust, is very loose from the shaft and block. Also missing the gas cap and starting rope, one thumb screw, and both pads.
