Description

Outboard engine, Bendix Eclipse Bendix Eclipse SM 86.023.001 An air-cooled engine from 1936. A fan is attached to the upper end of the crankshaft, cooling the horizontally firing, singe cylinder engine as it runs. The block has angled heat-sink fins to help with cooling. A hinged lid on top with a grating shields the fan. To start the engine, the lid is raised and the engine starts with a rope start. The presence of the fan, and the rope, would seem to make this a risky task. Throttle and spark adjusted together, separate richness adjustments for high and low speed, and choke. Turns over, good compression.
