Description

Outboard engine, Evinrude (early). Date from Bill Loveland 1-2-06/ Evinrude Detachable Row-Boat Motor 97.055 A large, early outboard, the first from Evinrude. A horizontally-firing single cylinder with a cast iron block. It has rudimentary controls; what looks like a richness adjustment may in fact serve as the throttle, as no throttle is evident. Ignition timing is under the starting wheel. Water intake is near the propeller and the water is discharged through the exhaust. this engine has a nice cast-aluminum exhaust manifold with "Evinrude Detachable Row-Boat Motor" cast into it, that feeds into a perforated aluminum can on the port side of the motor. It also has a nice system in front for greasing the crankshaft which is essentially an oil zirk with a plunger that pushes grease into the joint, possibly through distribution channels inside the crankshaft. The motor is meant to remain in place, only the lower unit turns for steering. Turns over with good compression, a nice engine.
