Bendix Aviation Company Eclipse 1997.043
An air-cooled engine from 1930. A fan is attached to the upper end of the crankshaft, cooling the horizontally firing, singe cylinder engine as it runs. The block has angled heat-sink fins to help with cooling. A hinged lid on top with a grating shields the fan. To start the engine, the lid is raised and the engine starts with a rope start. The presence of the fan, and the rope, would seem to make this a risky task. Throttle and spark adjusted together, separate richness adjustments for high and low speed, and choke. The spark plug on this engine is directly attached to the induction coil, so no wires are necessary.Collection
