Description

Outboard engine, 1959 Mercury Mark 78A The big two-stroke cycle vertical in-line six from Mercury, producing seventy horsepower. This is a cutaway model for display at boat shows and promotional events. Evident are the two-pole starting system, dual 12-volt induction coils (though one is missing) and distributor cap. This engine could be started in either direction, so reverse was obtained by running the engine backwards. A cable plugs into the starboard side of this engine for all controls.
