half hull of a half clipper launch, model built by Steve Wheeler from Fred W. Martin’s design #54. Fred W. Martin was the chief designer for A. Bain & Co. from 1887-1890. The clipper-bowed launch is typical of Martin's output around the turn of the century. He seems to have been a master of launch design with some 22 designs out of the 73 featured in his "Second Edition Album of Designs" (published circa 1901) being launches. They ranged in length from 16' to 50'; some had open cockpits, but canvas canopies and hard-tops also appeared, as well as enclosed full or half-cabins.Acquisition
