Judge's launch, model built by Steve Wheeler from Fred W. Martin’s design #59. Fred W. Martin was the chief designer for A. Bain & Co. from 1887-1890. In 1896, Martin designed the 38' Judge's launch. It was apparently intended for use as a regatta committee boat or a platform for judging other aquatic events. Martin drew two versions: a steam-powered one, published in the first edition of his "Album of Designs" (1897); and a gasoline-powered one, published in "Second Edition Album of Designs" (ca. 1901). When he reworked the boat for gasoline power, he altered the rake of the masts, which created a problem with the aft cabin door so it could no longer open fully.Acquisition
