Description

2009.008 Boat type: racing kayak Builder: Struer Model: Cleaver-X racing kayak Length: 204" Beam: 20" Date Built: Struer kayak was founded in 1947 by two Danish cabinetmakers, Sv. Helge Kobberup and Gerhard Sorensen. Since 1948, 11 athletes have received gold medals in Struer kayaks. For 30 years the company's designer, Jorgen Samson built upon the many experiences from the Olympic Games and world championship events where the Struer kayaks excelled. An adjustment to the hull of the Cleaver-X was made in 1996. In 1998 Samson made a radical change to the deck construction, making the body extremely narrow all the way from the cockpit to the stem. Other minor improvements to the bottom of the kayak were also made. The changes have increased the speed of the kayak, only taking a few strokes to reach maximum speed. JMP 4/5/2010
